WHAT IS A BEARD TRANSPLANT?

A beard transplant is a surgical procedure that takes hair follicles from the donor area, usually the back of your scalp and permanently relocates them to your face to create or enhance beard growth.

The goal is to provide a fuller, thicker, and natural-looking beard that can be shaved and styled just like regular facial hair.

HOW DOES THE PROCEDURE WORK?

A beard and mustache transplant is essentially the same procedure as a hair transplant, just performed on the face.

The key difference lies in the techniques used: while hair transplants often utilize several methods like FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and DHI (Direct Hair Implantation), the DHI technique is typically the preferred and most recommended method for facial hair.

This preference is because DHI allows for more precise control over the angle and direction of each individual transplanted hair, which is crucial for creating a natural-looking beard and mustache.

WHO IS SUITABLE FOR A BEARD TRANSPLANT?

An ideal candidate for a beard transplant is generally a healthy adult male who has patchy, thin, or nonexistent facial hair (often due to genetics) or wishes to camouflage scars on the face. The single most crucial requirement is having a sufficient supply of healthy hair follicles in a donor area, typically the back or sides of the scalp, as these hairs are resistant to future loss and will grow permanently on the face. Candidates should also have realistic expectations about the achievable density and should usually be over the age of 25, allowing their natural facial hair pattern to be fully developed and assessed before the procedure.
