WHAT ARE DENTAL VENEERS?

Dental veneers are very thin, custom-made shells, typically crafted from porcelain or composite resin, that is permanently bonds to the front surface of your teeth. They are a popular cosmetic solution designed to quickly and dramatically enhance your smile by masking a variety of imperfections, such as severe stains that don't respond to whitening, minor chips, small gaps, or teeth that are slightly misshapen or worn down. The veneer essentially acts as a new, flawless facade, giving the tooth a bright, uniform, and aesthetically pleasing appearance.

TYPES OF DENTAL VENNERS:

The two primary types of dental veneers are Porcelain Veneers and Composite Veneers. Porcelain veneers are custom-made, durable ceramic shells that offer superior aesthetics, are highly stain-resistant, and typically last 10–15 years or more, but require multiple visits and some irreversible enamel removal. Composite veneers (or dental bonding) are made from a resin material applied directly to the tooth, making them a more affordable, single-visit, and easily repairable option, though they are less durable and more prone to staining, usually lasting 5–7 years.

WHO IS SUITABLE FOR DENTAL VENEERS?

The most suitable candidates for dental veneers are individuals with generally healthy gums and teeth who wish to correct cosmetic imperfections like severe stains, small gaps, minor chips, or slightly misshapen teeth. Crucially, candidates must be free of active dental disease (like decay or gum disease) and must have sufficient natural tooth enamel to allow for strong bonding. Patients should also be committed to maintaining good oral hygiene and must address habits like severe teeth grinding (bruxism), which can damage the porcelain, often requiring the use of a protective nightguard.
